G'day, and welcome to Issue #8.
This week's Big Story is a sharp one — six Greater Dandenong teenagers, including an alleged 13-year-old driver, charged after a stolen-car robbery spree that touched Keysborough and Noble Park before ending in a police pursuit. Below that, a long-running dispute at Dandenong Market has landed at VCAT, with a Bazaar trader taking on management over the revitalisation works.
Speaking of the Market — the $1 billion, 20-year Dandenong Market Precinct Plan is due before councillors for adoption this month. It's a big one for the whole precinct's future, and we'll be watching closely. Full details in Council Watch.
Police are still searching for missing Dandenong woman Yun, also known as Michelle — nothing new to report, but we're not dropping it. This week's Suburb Spotlight lands on Lyndhurst, and we didn't get a Resident Voice submission this week, so we've flipped it into a call-out instead — see below. There's also a proper Only in Dandenong from Michael, who spotted a man doing something with five moving trolleys that has to be seen to be believed.

Six teens charged after armed robbery spree across Keysborough and Noble Park.
Six Greater Dandenong teenagers, including an alleged 13-year-old driver, have been charged following a series of armed robberies across the south east on Saturday 11 July. Police responded to reports of a vehicle being driven erratically around Springvale about 2.20pm — the car had allegedly been stolen from a Hawthorn property that morning.
Its occupants are then alleged to have carried out three armed robberies within the hour: a business on Cheltenham Road, Keysborough just after 11.30am, another on Corrigan Road, Noble Park before midday, and a third on South Road, Moorabbin around 12.30pm — including threats made with a machete. Police tracked the vehicle through Moorabbin, Keysborough, EastLink and the Monash Freeway before boxing it in near Pakenham, deploying OC spray to make the arrests.
A 15 and 17-year-old from Greater Dandenong were charged with car theft and bailed to a children's court. An 18-year-old Springvale South man was charged with car theft and committing indictable offences while on bail, bailed to appear at Dandenong Magistrates' Court on 21 November. A 16 and 17-year-old were charged with aggravated burglary, two armed robberies and robbery, remanded to a children's court. A 13-year-old was charged with aggravated burglary, two armed robberies, robbery and serious driving offences, also remanded.

🏪 Also This Week — Dandenong Market
Bazaar trader takes Dandenong Market to VCAT over revitalisation.
Long-term Bazaar trader Leon Buchman has filed for a VCAT injunction to halt the Bazaar revitalisation works, seeking compensation and a guaranteed five-year reinstatement. A key legal question — whether his stall operates under a lease or a licence — remains undecided; VCAT's vice-president is due on site 17 August to inspect fit-outs before a hearing that afternoon. A compulsory conference on settlement terms was held Monday 13 July. At least seven other traders are joined to the case.

🚗 Also This Week — Dandenong South
Second man charged over fatal "racing" crash.
A second 21-year-old man has been charged with culpable and dangerous driving after police allege he was racing one of the vehicles involved in the fatal crash on South Gippsland Highway on 26 June, which killed a 21-year-old Cranbourne man. He was arrested via warrant in Hampton Park on 8 July. Both co-accused have been bailed to committal mentions at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 30 October.

🔎 Suburb Spotlight
Lyndhurst
Postcode 3975 · Approx. 36km SE of Melbourne CBD
Here's something most residents don't know: Lyndhurst is split down the middle between two councils. The eastern side, inside the Urban Growth Boundary, belongs to Casey and has filled up fast with new estates around Marriott Waters. The western side — the Greater Dandenong side, west of Western Port Highway — is a different story entirely: semi-rural, part of the South Eastern Green Wedge, and deliberately kept that way.
It's quiet out here, and that's rather the point. But it's not without its long-running issue: the Taylors Road landfill, operating in the area since 1990, has been a sore point for council for years. Council's public position remains that the site should be closed "at the earliest opportunity" — worth knowing if you're near it and wondering why the subject keeps coming up at council level.
It's easy to drive through the Greater Dandenong side of Lyndhurst and assume there's not much here — no big shopping strip, no train station of its own (Lynbrook and Merinda Park cover it these days). But for the households who've chosen it, that's exactly the appeal: space, quiet, and a green wedge buffer that most of Melbourne's south east has long since lost. Not flashy, not loud — just its own thing, sitting right on the LGA line.

🛡 Safety Update
Search continues for missing Dandenong woman Yun (also known as Michelle)
Victoria Police's search for Yun, 39, continues with no update this week. She was reported missing on 30 June, last seen 1 July at a Parkdale foreshore car park, where her vehicle was later found with her phone, keys and wallet inside. Police say her disappearance remains out of character and are not treating it as suspicious. Anyone who sights Yun should call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Anyone with information should call Dandenong Police Station on (03) 9767 7444.

🏛 Council Watch
|
WatchThe $1 billion, 20-year Dandenong Market Precinct Plan is due before councillors for adoption this month. The draft — up to 1,000 new dwellings, a landscaped urban plaza, an expanded Pioneer Park and apartment towers above underused car parks — went through public consultation back in March–April. It's now scheduled for a formal council vote, though no confirmed meeting date has been published yet. What this means for residents: this is the plan that sets the direction for the Market precinct for the next 20 years. We'll confirm the vote date and outcome as soon as it's public. Leaning at a determined 45 degrees, horse-and-cart style, one wrong move away from the whole convoy dragging him down the hill.
Resident Michael spotted a sight worth sharing this week: a middle-aged man hauling five moving trolleys in a train behind him, stacked full like he was relocating an entire household, mid-hill and giving it everything he had. No name, no explanation — just a man, a hill, and a genuinely heroic effort. Only in Dandenong.
